Jesus alone

Regardless of how much we can rely on our friends, family and beloved, there's nothing greater than relying on the One and Only: Jesus. We as humans tend to be easily seduced by the dimness of temporal beauty and worldly security, that which we perceive as a "sure thing." The tangible. But when it comes to our Christian walk, we must not walk by sight, but by faith.

One of my biggest challenges has been learning to believe in God's promises for my life. I often tend to drift away by holding on to the one thing that I once thought was a "sure thing." When I don't see certain things coming to pass, I regress and regret not having what I once held as secure.

In Luke 9:35, after Jesus transfigured himself before the awe-filled eyes of Peter, James and John, they see Jesus alone. Jesus alone because the precious light of His glory shone ever brighter than that of Moses and Elijah. Jesus stood alone. As He revealed Himself to His disciples, the words of Peter in the previous verses resonate... He is Jesus, the Christ of God!

It is this same revelation that I pray to receive from the Lord when all the "sure things" I used to hold as precious sting my soul with doubt and fear. I pray to be reminded that Jesus stood alone. Though the miracles performed by Moses and Elijah were a "sure thing" of yore, Jesus' glory was greater.

Jesus' transfiguration reminds me that He is my only rock, my salvation, my shelter. Jesus alone.

No matter how much I may come to rely on my beloved, my friends, my family... Jesus will always stand alone because His love will never fail me, so I strive, as Paul encourages the Ephesians, "to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. "(Eph. 3: 18-19, NIV)

May the daily revelation of the Christ of God to us be a constant reminder of His absolute and complete love for us because He is Jesus, the One, the Only Christ of God!

Charco de Rosas
